YouTube's DSLR Guide channel made this fantastic video about viral videos.  Here is what he came up with...

From his research:
o 24% shocking
o 30% impressive
o 14% cute
o 16% weird
o 50% comedic
o 8% no humans or animals seen or depicted


Other things he noticed:
o Average duration 4:10
o Not the best camera quality
o Something special, such as hilariously bad, wacky, strange, contradictory, relate-able, quotable.

But ultimately, making a viral video is still unpredictable.
